I - Interminably

Raksha Bandhan (the bond of protection in Hindi) or Rakhi (राखी ) is a Hindu and Sikh
festival, which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. It is celebrated on the full moon of the month of Shraavana.

The festival is marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her. The brother and sister traditionally feed each other sweets. It is not necessary that the rakhi can be given only to a brother by birth; any male can be "adopted" as a brother by tying a rakhi on the person, that is "blood brothers n sisters", whether they are cousins or a good friend. Indian history is replete with women asking for protection, through rakhi, from men who were neither their brothers, nor Hindus themselves. Rani Karnavati of Chittor sent a rakhi to the Mughal Emperor Humayun when she was threatened by Bahadur Shah of Mewar. Humayun abandoned an ongoing military campaign to ride to her rescue.

The rakhi may also be tied on other special occasions to show solidarity and kinship (not necessarily only among brothers and sisters), as was done during the Indian Independence Movement.

Origins:

The origin of the festival is mostly attributed to one of following mythological incidents:
1. Indra's fight with Vritra - Indra, the king of devtas (gods), had lost his kingdom to the asura (demon) Vritra. At the behest of his Guru Brihaspati, Indra's wife Sachi[citation needed] tied a thread around her husband's wrist to ensure his victory in the upcoming duel.

2. Draupadi and Krishna during the Rajsuya yagya - After Shishupal's death, Krishna was left with a bleeding finger. Draupadi, the wife of the Pandavas, had torn a strip of silk off her sari and tied it around Krishna's wrist to stop the flow of blood. Touched by her concern, Krishna had declared himself bound to her by her love. He further promised to repay the debt many fold. Many years later when Draupudi was about to be shamed by being disrobed in front of the whole court by her evil brother-in-law Duryodhana, she called on Krishna to help her, and he did by divinely elongating her sari so it could not be removed.

Why Rakhi?

Rituals like Rakhi, there is no doubt, help ease out various societal strains, induce fellow-feeling, open up channels of expression, give us an opportunity to rework on our role as human beings and, most importantly, bring joy in our mundane lives.

Mars

The Red Planet is about to be spectacular!
This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again.
The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification

Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.
By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30a.m. That's pretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history. So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month.Share this with your children and grandchildren.
NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN

August 27th..Watch the Sky!!! No one alive today will ever see this again....

(A man shines a flashlight on what appears
to be blood following one of the blasts.)

At least 36 people died and 40 were injured in two blasts at two places in Hyderabad on Saturday evening.
The blasts occurred at around 1930 hrs IST—the first at Lumbini Park on Necklace Road near the state Secretariat and the second five minutes later at Gokul Chat shop, a popular eating joint in Koti. The two places are eight km apart.
More than two dozen people at Gokul Chat and six at Lumbini Park.
Several hundred people had gathered at an auditorium in Lumbini Park for a laser show off the Hussain Sagar Lake. State Home Minister K Jana Reddy said around 500 people were in the auditorium when the blast ripped through the middle row of seats.
Reddy alleged the state government had got intelligence inputs that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence planned terror attacks in the state.

Chief Minister YSR Reddy after visiting Lumbini Park said the blasts were an act of terror. “I request everyone to maintain calm. This is definitely an act of terror,” he said.
The nature of blasts is not known but Additional Commissioner of Police Uma Maheswari Rao told CNN-IBN explosive material was used at least in Lumbini Park.
The police have cordoned off the two places and are searching railway stations and bus depots in the city. The injured have been taken to Mediciti Hospital and Osmania Hospital.
Security in Hyderabad has been tightened in view of 10,000 weddings on Sunday. This is the second major terror attack in the city this year. At least 12 people died and several were injured in a blast at the city’s Mecca Masjid mosque on May 18 this year.

Happy Indenpendence Day !

Translation

Mother, I salute thee!
Rich with thy hurrying streams,
bright with orchard gleams,
Cool with thy winds of delight,
Green fields waving Mother of might,
Mother free.
Glory of moonlight dreams,
Over thy branches and lordly streams,
Clad in thy blossoming trees,
Mother, giver of ease
Laughing low and sweet!
Mother I kiss thy feet,
Speaker sweet and low!
Mother, to thee I bow.
Who hath said thou art weak in thy lands
When swords flash out in seventy million hands
And seventy million voices roar
Thy dreadful name from shore to shore?
With many strengths who art mighty and stored,
To thee I call Mother and Lord!
Thou who saves, arise and save!
To her I cry who ever her foe drove
Back from plain and sea
And shook herself free.
Thou art wisdom, thou art law,
Thou art heart, our soul, our breath
Though art love divine, the awe
In our hearts that conquers death.
Thine the strength that nerves the arm,
Thine the beauty, thine the charm.
Every image made divine
In our temples is but thine.
Thou art Durga, Lady and Queen,
With her hands that strike and her swords of sheen,
Thou art Lakshmi lotus-throned,
And the Muse a hundred-toned,
Pure and perfect without peer,
Mother lend thine ear,
Rich with thy hurrying streams,
Bright with thy orchard gleems
Dark of hue O candid-fair
In thy soul, with jewelled hair
And thy glorious smile divine,
Loveliest of all earthly lands,
Showering wealth from well-stored hands!
Mother, mother mine!
Mother sweet,
I bow to thee,
Mother great and free!

bAnnEd zOne tEAM celebrates 60 years of INDIAN INDEPENDENCE

"At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom, As long as there are tears and suffering, so long our work will not be over."Nehru told the nation on the night of Aug. 14, 1947.Celebrating 60th years of independence how far we have been successful??Very few people will give an affirmative response...Still there are tears and still there are sufferings!!have we failed as a nation???Why still people struggle to get their daily quota of food..Why still we debate whether at that place a babri masjid was there or temple was there..Why every year a gothra happens and after it a gujurat happens!!!But there are also some good things that happened to us...becoming self dependent on food, leader in software technology and proficiently defending it's territory..Young mind like us during our childhood never understood what is independence..what's its worth...because it came to us naturally...Now suddenly there is much more awareness about being independent..I don't know even how it came..May be its because of our struggle against the elements like against the accused of jessical lal murder case and so on...Our rising faith in democracy,in the judiciary has affirmed our belief in our independence.....Independence is the right to speak where there is no fear ..And we are quite successful in doing that..Our democracy is widely admired every where in the world...After taking all the things into account i remember one dialogue of Rang de basanti, where one character says...Koi bi desh behetar nahin hota hai,Use behetar banana padta hai.....Yes,we can question about our journey from independence not being rosy....But it will not serve any good to us..As a nation we have to move forward together,to make it better...We have to believe that a nation of more than one billion can move if one billion will move together..

!!!!! JAI HIND !!!!!!

Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny,
and now the time comes when we shall redeem our
pledge...At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the
world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.
A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history,
when we step out from the old to the new, when an age
ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed,
finds utterance.
